6 essential requirements for material handling equipment in the food industry

Material handling equipment for the food industry

When the ordinary consumer eats his dinner, he rarely thinks about the food manufacturing process. Obviously, he is aware that it is probably not a farmer wife, who has cooked the food in her country kitchen, baked the bread, cut the fish, milked the cow, slaughtered the pig or matured the cheese - although sometimes various commercials try to convince him otherwise.

Today, food manufacturing is a top tuned industrial process. Efficiency requirements and quality control set the agenda. The longer the way from farm to fork, the more important it is to handle food and raw materials in a careful and efficient way through the entire process.

Strict hygiene requirements
Thus, it is essential that material handling equipment meets the strict hygiene requirements, which are necessary in the food industry. For instance, the equipment must be able to handle the large temperature differences, the high humidity and the chemical aggressive environments in the food manufacturing processes.

6 essential requirements for food manufacturing equipment

  1. The equipment has no loose or small parts that can rip off and mix with the food being processed (no product contamination)
  2. The surface of the equipment is easy to clean (high hygiene requirements)
  3. The equipment is resistant to aggressive environments (corrosion resistant material)
  4. The equipment handles the special food texture gently and carefully (custom-built)
  5. The equipment is robust and able to lift and move the items repeatedly without breaking (long operating life)
  6. The equipment has more than one function and can be adjusted to solve various tasks in the process (flexibility)

Stainless steel handling equipment
To meet these requirements, we offer a wide range of stainless steel lifting equipment, i.e. pallet trucks, highlifters and stackers to fish wholesalers, slaughterhouses, food manufacturing plants, diaries, bakeries etc.

Logitrans uses AISI 316L stainless steel. The resultant composition gives AISI 316L stainless steel improved corrosion resistance in many aggressive environments and resistance to pitting corrosion. AISI 316L is a low-carbon modification of AISI 316. 316/316L is an 18/8 austenitic stainless steel enhanced with an addition of 2.5% Molybdenum, to provide superior corrosion resistance to type 304 stainless steel.

Ergonomically correct
Naturally, we are extremely focused on developing high quality products that meets the high standards required by our customers. But we know that your employees are your most valuable assets, why we at Logitrans are equally focused on providing solutions that support healthy and efficient work environments. The right equipment ensures the workers ergonomically correct work positions, which benefit the productivity and well-being. Even though the food has not been processed by a farmer wife in a country kitchen, it can still be made with passion and love.
